Barbican OpenFest / Turning Earth

Turning Earth is an open-access ceramics studio that works a bit like a gym: members pay per month and come and go at times that suit them. Built on a US model, it was the first of its kind in London.

Recently, Turning Earth opened in the Lee Valley in March 2017, in a 8,500 sq ft top floor of an old hardware factory, adding to the original workshop in Hoxton.

The centre includes a large open plan open-access membership studio where part-time professional makers, serious hobbyists and beginners work together in a community environment, with the benefit of shared facilities.

This year, they were invited to Barbican’s OpenFest in the famous conservatory where they showcased talented makers and crafts from their own workshops.

Sixty contemporary artists from Turning Earth will gather to sell their work in the unique setting of the Barbican’s Conservatory Terrace and Garden Room.
Beautifully crafted tableware and one-off sculptural and conceptual pieces were available to buy directly from their makers.

Throughout the day, artists will demonstrated their techniques in various locations along the Conservatory trail.

We designed the promotional material to co-inside with Barbican’s own branding, using the use of the ‘carrier’ logo in amongst other ceramic shapes. After a visit to the conservatory to take photo’s, we also created an outline of the steel framed roof to act as a subtle background to the design.

Assets were created for both print and digital/social promotion.
